Professional Accreditations

At ESI, our team is comprised of qualified professionals with credentials such as a CPA Accredited in Business Valuations (ABV), Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA), Accredited Valuation Analyst (AVA) or Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA).

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
(ABV Designation)

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) began offering the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) accreditation in business valuation in 1997. The accreditation is offered to CPAs who have successfully completed the following:

  • A member in good standing of the AICPA
  • Hold a valid CPA certificate or license
  • Successful completion of a proctored eight hour examination

Approximately 2,600 people hold the ABV designation. Scott Miller and Greg Carlson both hold the ABV designation.

The National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts
(CVA Designation and AVA Designation)

The National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA) began offering the Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) designation in 1991, and the Accredited Valuation Analyst (AVA) designation in 1999 to its members that meet the requirements below. These designations are the only valuation credentials accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).

CVA

  • Must be a CPA, member of the American Institute of CPAs and/or a member of the individual’s State Society of CPAs
  • Attendance of a 40 hour NACVA business valuation course
  • Successful completion of a two part examination

Approximately 4,800 professionals hold the CVA designation. Scott Miller and Greg Carlson both hold the CVA designation.

AVA

  • Four year college degree in business related field
  • At least two years of full-time valuation experience or provide evidence of ten business valuation engagements
  • Attendance of a 40 hour NACVA business valuation course
  • Successful completion of a two part examination

Approximately 500 professionals hold the AVA designation. Sandra Paavola, Craig Olinger, Kim Parsons, and Alison Geanon all hold the AVA designation.

American Society of Appraisers
(ASA Designation)

Organized in 1936, the American Society of Appraisers represents the oldest and only major appraiser organization representing all disciplines of appraisal specialists. It offers the Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) designation in the business valuation discipline to its members who meet the following requirements:

  • Four year college degree or equivalent
  • At least three years of full-time appraisal experience
  • Attendance and successful completion of four 27 hour training courses and proctored examinations in business valuation
  • Approval by the Society’s Board of one actual business valuation report
  • Successful completion of a course and examination on the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) of the Appraisal Foundation
  • Successful completion of an examination on the Society’s Code of Ethics

Approximately 1,000 people hold the ASA designation in the business valuation discipline. ToniLynne Kildow is a candidate member of the American Society of Appraisers and is working towards the ASA designation.
